Gag Bits

Filter

The Gag bit is a type of bit that is equipped with cheekpieces (cord) that pass through the rings of the bit and are attached to the bridle. A ring is fixed at the bottom of the cord to which the rein is attached. When the reins are pulled, the bit slides up in the horse's mouth, creating pressure behind the ears. This design is intended to encourage the horse to raise its head and is commonly used on horses that tend to be heavy on the forehand. The Gag can be used with one or two reins, depending on the rider's preference. However, due to its strong effect, this bit is not recommended for inexperienced riders and horses.
